Welcome!Hi, I'm Teed Rockwell. I've been playing Chapman Stick longer than almost anybody except Emmett Chapman himself, and I've always used my own tuning. I've never liked effects much. I don't use Midi, or Fuzz, or anything that whirls or gurgles. The highest (unconscious) compliment I ever got was the question "What effects are you using to create all of those different sounds?" The answer, I'm proud to say, was "My Fingers!" I've always tried to make the Stick sound like an unknown traditional instrument of some sort. When I play music with my Partner in Life and Music, Diana Stork, I want to blend in with the natural strings of her folk harp. When I play with a rock band, I want to sound like something built by a folk tinkerer in an electronics shop in the Lousiana Swamp. So I take chops from wherever I can get them, but make sure that when I've sewn them together, it won't be easy to trace their origins. My three biggest influences are Jeff Beck, Les Paul, and Sarod Master Ali Akbar Kahn, who have far more in common than anyone thinks. If you want to hear these similarities demonstrated, listen to my music page!
